Les Rêves Canadiens

Sadness

The hatred shown in all actions
In a world of dirt, garbage and war
Death is rampant and places I see
Could never be imagined by outsiders.
The Rich sit in their velvet chairs
While the lives of children are lost to
Food needlessly thrown to the birds of Central Park
And water wasted by hour-long showers
Weekends are wasted if not spent with friends
While children wander the streets looking
For work cleaning our gutters and shining our shoes
For two dollars and a loaf of bread.
So easy it is to be blinded by the green paper
Lives are centered around and lost by
Tonight, when you look out your window
Realize that theres truth to the picture of
Children drinking out of slews and
Sleeping among rats.
