Les Rêves Canadiens

Stripped

Everyday a question’s posed,
Will I live or die?
And everyday we ask ourselves,
What is next and why?
We ponder and we meditate,
But still, the questions stay.
While the world keeps on living,
Each and every day.
And everyday we watch the news
With disappointed faces,
Disgusted at our fellow beings,
Our own and others’ races.
Then we sit to ask ourselves
These questions once again,
To maybe find the answers in
A night of flicks, cheap beer and men.

Then once again reality
Bites us on the rear.
Back to work the world goes,
“Let’s meet at noon my dear”.
A little wink and cutesy names
Come with pats here and there.
You scream out loud, “DISCRIMINATION”,
And hope your trial’s fair.
At work your friend is fired,
For what he doesn’t know.
He cries, “DISCRIMINATION”
As his bank account grows.
You call in sick and take a few
To ask yourself again,
What’s the point of my existence?
And, when will it all end?

You wonder how the universe
Keeps spinning on through time.
How Pol Pot came to be
With his legacy of crime.
Our minds are scorched forever
With pictures of the dead
The Killing Fields left behind
And damage that’s widespread.
Then we sit in darkness
And light a candle bright.
To remind us of our history
And change what’s wrong to right.
You stand and scream in anger
And raise your arms up high.
Your clothes fall down, to the floor,
Then exhausted, you cry.
As you walk along the street
People gape and turn.
Will they ever understand
This evil branded burn?
Your naked body seems to breathe
The toxins of your city.
On with it you go along,
Then It comes to you, quite pretty.
What? I ask and you reply,
But I seem to understand.
So, you say, the end has come,
Or at least is close at hand.
