Les Rêves Canadiens
HOMAGE DE BROGLIE
Roll-up, roll-up the legs !
Rabble rout the matter and carpet bag the remains,
but pay homage to dear Broglie;
with vessel and flacon of spit and bile
in bittersweet effigy and hallowed respite.
For he, life's poor merry-andrew
was wave against lip and tongue
but particle going down.
So swallow him, swallow him whole !
Our maker is enamored about stars about worlds about poles,
and walks in drafty cellars of entropy,
and hoards his precious puzzles in sparks,
and sleeps in Chinese fire-drills
below a clump of a tuft of a wisp.
We must give up, give up the ghost !
wave bye bye to nature's parallax
whose supramundane godlings
and lares et penates
sit high on glass thrones with wreath and aureole,
content as life's numinous fits and starts
line our solemn cortege;
As we give silence to this passing moment of inertia
that spans these heavens and firmaments.
Then pray with scarab and mojo and cross,
and hymn our Dies Irae of mirth
and moan your callow trite
and talk your shit !
But remember
kneel in the chapel of your soul
tidy up...tidy up
Not a whit not a scrap.
