The colour compendium is a collection of information about the individual colours of the known spectrum. I have collected these files over a six year period.
It is predominately based on mechanical(Itten), psychological(Kellogg), and metaphysical(Kandinsky) information.
I found the information in various new age and psych books. The metaphysical theory is based on the Chacras of Oriental philosophy. The
psych stuff evolved around Kellogg's work with psychiatric patients, and the
colours they chose for the Mandelas they were asked to draw. The text is in point form. If you need further information, contact me at the address
below. Whether you're looking for trivia or deeper understanding, you may find this file interesting. I don't use this directly in the making of art.
I do use it to analyse my work occasionally and to see where I am going with a
particular colour. I can sometimes resolve and evolve into another colour. I am constantly amazed by the validity of some of the points it makes. I
used it to analyse the work of Artemisia Gentileschi while at Vermont College. Of course I don't know whether she did resolve the
pain of her rape, but changes in the colours used in the series of paintings she made of the decapitation of the
Assyrian General Holofernes by Judith seem to indicate that she did.
