Saskatchewan Daffodils
Out west the plants are hardy, men are bold,
as winter's breath the earth and sky enslaves.
Saskatchewan turns white with bitter cold
and daffodils lie down in snowy graves.
Beasts scratch for bits of food in frozen sod.
At times there seems no hope that they'll survive
unless by intervening act of God,
He shows forth power to make the soil revive.
Then once again sun's warmth invades the earth.
Ice melts and courses through the rocks and rills;
as if by resurrection's new rebirth
the prairie flows with fields of daffodils.
