Freedom Kent has told me he has had many intellectual concepts of what freedom is. This painting brought him out of the intellectual. It is the dawning of awareness that pulls him from the introverted self to connect with a newer truth.
The mirror image is very symbolic of a place he retreats to when he feels threatened. It can be a dark and murky place, but it s safe and Kent knows this well. In this new stance he is connected to the earth's energy. There is warmth and no obstruction to movement or growth. It is a work filled with faith.
