In the Swim
is my first self-portrait and holds my feelings of rejection, distrust, and
resentment. I do see the suspicion of the child in my painting, the Madonna reflected here. I like this wary quality in myself because it allows me the freedom to be naïve; I
am already protected from within by my suspiciousness. Of course there are times that
suspiciousness can overwhelm, causing paranoia.
The pastel has a yellow male glow emanating from the solar plexus and little red sperms in the
swim up the front of my body.
The pastel is approximately 18"X24".Completed Fall of 1990. $600.00 Can. unframed. Entrance to John's works,
